Internet in the Netherlands
Having a reliable internet connection at home is crucial for both work and leisure. If you don’t speak Dutch, navigating the Dutch market for the best internet provider in the Netherlands can be quite overwhelming. At ProviderCheck.nl we are happy to help you understand the options that are available and to choose the right internet provider for your needs.
Why compare Dutch internet providers?
When moving to a new home, one of the first things you’ll need is a reliable internet connection in the Netherlands. But why is it important to always compare the different Dutch internet providers?
First of all, providers can offer different connection types, including fiber internet (glasvezel in Dutch), DSL and cable. Each type of connection comes with its own benefits and speed capabilities. Not all connections might be available at your home. Using the free-to-use ProviderCheck.nl postcode check you can check which internet carriers are able to deliver their internet service at your address. The cost of internet service can also vary significantly between providers. By comparing the internet providers available to you you can find a plan that best fits your needs, and it helps you find the best price.
At ProviderCheck.nl we created an independent tool for comparing internet providers in the Netherlands. We’ll help you simplify the process of finding the best internet connection in the Netherlands for your specific needs. It’s important to use a 100% independent comparison website like ProviderCheck.nl to be able to find the right internet carrier for you without any bias. Also good to know: when subscribing to a new internet provider using the ProviderCheck.nl comparison tool you always receive an extra €10 cashback discount.
Postcode check: finding available internet providers
The first step in finding the right provider for you is using our postcode check feature. Enter your postcode and house number on top of this page to determine which Dutch internet providers are available at your address. No worries, this works anonymously and without any obligation. The tool will show you all available options based on the connection types available to you. These connection types are:
- Fiber internet (glasvezel): Known for its high speed (download as well as upload speed) and reliable connection. Ideal for activities like streaming high quality videos, video conferencing or online gaming.
- DSL: This type of connection is generally slower but can still be a good option if fiber is not available to you. Note: if there’s a fiber connection in your home, DSL will no longer be available to you as fiber is replacing DSL in the Netherlands. Fiber is much faster and more reliable, which is a big benefit for both you and the internet service providers.
- Cable (Coax): Has a high download speed and is widely available in the Netherlands. Generally offered by Ziggo and very suitable for the average internet user.
ProviderCheck filtering options
Once you see the list of providers available to you, you can use our filters on this page to refine your search. To explain how these filters work:
- Soort pakket (type of package): Are you looking for internet only, internet & TV, internet and landline phone, or an all-in-one package?
- Mobiel abonnement bij (mobile plan at): By having both your mobile plan and your internet at home package with the same provider, you might get certain benefits or a discount.
- Huidige internet provider (current internet provider): Already have a provider but want to switch? Select your current provider to directly compare packages of this provider.
- Kosten per maand (price per month): Set a maximum budget to find internet packages in the Netherlands that fit within your price range. This helps you avoid providers that exceed your budget.
- Contractduur (contact duration): Choose between monthly, 12-month or 24-month contracts. Longer contracts generally offer a better deal, but you’re also committed to this duration and will have to pay a fee if you want to cancel it earlier.
- Levertijd (delivery time): Do you need the connection very soon? Select whether you need it within 2, 4 or 6 weeks to exclude providers that are not able to deliver that quickly.
- Selecteer providers (select providers): Is there a certain provider you’d like to include or exclude? You can select them here.
- Type abonnement (type of plan): Are you looking for a consumer plan, or do you need an internet connection for your business? The tool selects consumer plans by default, but you can change that with this filter.
- Download snelheid and upload snelheid (download and upload speed): Specify the desired download and upload speeds to match your requirements. We generally recommend a download speed of at least 50 mbit/s per user.
- Verbindingstype (connection type): Filter the type of connection you prefer (DSL, cable, fiber internet, or 4G). If you already filled in your postcode and house number, connection types not available to you will not be shown.
- Internet extra: Select whether you need extra services, like an installation guarantee (meaning you can install it yourself easily), installation by a monteur (mechanic), overstapservice (transfer services if you want to swap providers) and Wi-Fi services (meaning your provider will manually optimize your Wi-Fi at home).
- Favoriete zenders (favorite channels): Is there a certain TV channel you want to receive within your package including TV? Select it here to only show providers making this possible.
- Type TV kastje (type of TV decoder): Do you only want to watch TV via an app, or do you want to watch via a hardware decoder (kastje) on your tv as well?
- TV Extra: Do you want any additional services within your TV package? Options are: 4K TV ontvanger (4K receiver), begin gemist (go back to the beginning of a show), buitenshuis tv via app (TV outside of your home via app), live tv pauzeren (pause live tv), opnemen (record shows), programma gemist (rewatch a show) and a smart tv app.
- Bellen extra (phone extra’s): Do you want a landline phone within your internet package? You can select some extra options here, like: nummerbehoud (keep your phone number when switching to a different provider), onbeperkt bellen EU (unlimited calling within the EU), onbeperkt bellen NL (unlimited calling with the Netherlands) and onbeperkt bellen wereld (unlimited calling worldwide).
Comparing packages of internet carriers
After applying your filters, you can start comparing the options that remain. However, when selecting a packing it is crucial to understand the different type of packages. Do you want to combine internet services with television? Depending on the provider you will receive a range of channels, including international ones. It’s convenient and cost-effective to get both services in one package. It’s also an option to add a landline phone to your package.
If you don’t need television channels, opting for an internet-only package is the cheapest option. This is especially useful if you primarily use streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime or other platforms for your entertainment. These packages focus solely on providing internet services without TV or a phone landline.
Looking for a specific tv channel? We have a special page to see which providers are broadcasting this channel.
